Colby grew up in Highland in the middle of six kids — two sisters and three brothers. I went to Lone Peak High School. After graduation, I went on an LDS mission to Bordeaux, France.
When I got home, I started attending UVU where I earned a bachelor’s degree in business. Shortly after that, I started a four-year apprenticeship to become a journeyman lineman, those 4 years proved harder and longer than the 4yrs at UVU. I then started a 15-year career as a lineman for Rocky Mountain Power.
While working as a lineman, my schedule consisted of a 4 a.m. wake-up. I would Journal/write for 30 minutes, read/study for 30 minutes, meditate for 30 minutes, work out for 70 minutes in my home gym, then shower and get off to work by 7 a.m. This routine was non-negotiable. This schedule wasn’t based upon the amount of sleep I had gotten, or if the kids were this and that. I had more excuses than anyone to get more sleep and skip days. But I didn’t.
I later quit my job as a lineman to pursue my dreams in finance and bodybuilding. My passion is in helping others perfect their minds, bodies, and their finances. I now spend my time perfecting bodies, minds, and bank accounts.
I got into bodybuilding in 2013 because I saw the results of a best friend. I joined groups and training sessions to jumpstart my progress. I was all in. However, my approach to training drastically changed after 2 yrs. Countless hours of studying and researching the effects of exercise on the brain led me to write several papers on how in society we get it wrong when we think that exercise is for the body; when in fact, it should be for the brain. I train for the brain, the body is a side effect.
I know how to build muscle naturally. As a 100% natural bodybuilder, I understand the difficulties of putting on muscle and being lean. I know the pains of walking into a gym and staring at a wall for an hour because you lack energy and motivation. I can help you overcome these complexities.
I train the brain. I understand your psychological readiness for change. I build new neural pathways to undergo true lifestyle changes. This is where true transformation occurs.
I know how to get a 10 RPE. In order to build muscle, you must progressively overload. I know the quickest and easiest methods to get you to this point.
Having gone through the American Council on Exercise: Personal Trainer, I can equip you with a process that yields individualized training programs and progressions based on your goals, abilities, and needs.
I am a coach. My programming is a coaching-based approach rather than a prescriptive approach.
